All about empowering you to support others in times of need. It teaches you how to provide initial help to an adult who might be experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis, guiding them until professional help is available or the situation improves.

Participants learn how to apply mental health first aid to adults across a range of situations, including:​​

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Psychosis

  • Substance use problems

  • Suicidal thoughts and behaviours

  • Panic attacks

  • Non-suicidal self-injury

  • Traumatic events

 
Upon completion of this course participants will be a Mental Health First Aider and be able to: ​​

  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of mental health problems in adults 

  • Use an evidence-based action plan to initiate a mental health first aid conversation 

  • Know the barriers to help-seeking and how to overcome these 

  • Assess for a range of crisis situations and provide initial support 

  • Understand the prevalence and impact of mental illnesses, risk factors and treatments and supports available 

  • Apply self-care practices as a Mental Health First Aider 

 
For flexibility, the course is offered in three different formats:

  1. the preferable two-day face-to-face delivery; 

  2. eLearning with online session; or

  3. eLearning with face-to-face session

 
All MHFA training can be tailored to workplaces or community settings. When organizing your training, you can choose the format and location that works best for you.
 
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training is available across Australia.
*for locations outside of Victoria, additional travel costs will apply for face-to-face training.

Understanding how to talk about mental health and having the confidence and knowledge to help someone in need are important skills that any person in the community can learn.

This is where Mental Health First Aid training can help.

MHFA Refresher

2 x 2.5-hour online sessions

*You are eligible for a Refresher course if you have completed a full MHFA course and accreditation assessment, within the last 3 years. You will need to provide a copy of your Certificate of Accreditation prior to the training. You can access a copy via your Mental Health First Aid Account.

 

$250 (+GST) per person

MHFA for Legal Professionals

Suitable for adults working in the legal sector and community-based groups. Any adult (aged 18+) can attend.

Suitable for adults working in the financial sector and community-based groups. Any adult (aged 18+) can attend.

MHFA for Tertiary Students

Suitable for tertiary students aged 18+.

Students learn about the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in students and other adults, how to recognise and respond to an emerging or worsening mental health problem.
